Overview

Rapidly generated virus specific T cells (R-MVST) are an investigational cell therapy product consisting of polyclonal CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes that are specifically reactive against viral antigens. These cells are manufactured ex vivo by stimulating donor peripheral blood mononuclear cells with peptide libraries or antigen-presenting cells loaded with viral antigens from clinically relevant viruses such as cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), adenovirus, BK virus, and others. The process allows for rapid expansion—typically within 10–14 days—of a population of Th1-polarized, polyfunctional T-cells capable of recognizing and killing infected target cells while sparing non-infected tissues[1][5][6][8]. The primary mechanism is immunologic cytotoxicity via recognition of viral peptides presented on HLA molecules. This approach is being developed to treat refractory or severe viral infections in immunocompromised patients, particularly after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation[5][6]. R-MVST products can be manufactured from partially HLA-matched healthy donors or original transplant donors.
