Overview

Rare sugar complex (RSC) is a combination of several monosaccharides classified as "rare sugars," which are naturally occurring sugars present in very limited quantities in nature. The typical formulation of RSC includes L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-xylose, D-allulose, and D-tagatose. These sugars have unique chemical structures compared to common dietary sugars and are being studied for their potential health benefits. Mechanistically, the components of RSC may exert beneficial effects through multiple pathways: - Modulation of glycemic response by inhibiting carbohydrate digestion or absorption. - Antioxidant activity (e.g., increased superoxide dismutase activity). - Reduction of oxidative stress markers such as malondialdehyde. - Modulation of gut microbiota composition. Preclinical studies suggest that RSC can alleviate cognitive impairment associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus by reducing cerebral oxidative stress and restoring gut microbiome diversity. Individual rare sugars within the complex have also been shown to influence weight management and glycemic control[1][5][7].
