Rasburicase is a recombinant form of the enzyme urate oxidase, produced by genetically modified Saccharomyces cerevisiae using cDNA cloned from Aspergillus flavus. It catalyzes the enzymatic oxidation of uric acid to allantoin, an inactive and more soluble metabolite that can be easily eliminated by the body. Rasburicase is primarily used for the initial management of plasma uric acid levels in adults and children with leukemia, lymphoma, or solid tumors who are receiving anticancer therapy expected to result in tumor lysis syndrome and subsequent hyperuricemia. It is administered intravenously as a lyophilized powder reconstituted before use[1][3][4][5][10].
