RAY002 is an investigational, orally available small molecule glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonist developed by Guangdong South China Pharmaceutical Group. It is currently in Phase 1 clinical development for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. RAY002 functions by binding to and activating the GLP-1 receptor, mimicking the effects of the natural incretin hormone GLP-1. This activation leads to increased insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, decreased glucagon secretion, and slowed gastric emptying, which collectively improve blood glucose levels and support weight loss. Although some early reports categorized it as a long-acting GLP-1 analog, its formulation as a tablet and classification in recent pipeline data as a small molecule highlight its potential as a convenient oral alternative to injectable GLP-1 therapies.
