rBBX-01 is a recombinant protein and the first innate immunostimulator derived from a protozoan (Eimeria protozoan). It has demonstrated potent preclinical in vivo and in vitro activity as an immunostimulant. In phase I clinical trials, it was evaluated for safety, pharmacology, and preliminary efficacy in patients with recurrent incurable gynecologic malignancies and other resistant solid tumors. The drug was well tolerated with no significant adverse reactions reported. Pharmacodynamic studies indicated variable increases in interleukin-12 levels among patients, correlating with reductions in CA125 tumor marker levels for some individuals. Approximately 30% of patients with elevated CA125 experienced a response to treatment[2][3][5][7].
