Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**rBCG-interferon alpha-2b** is an experimental live recombinant *Mycobacterium bovis* bacillus Calmette-Guérin immunotherapy engineered to synthesize and secrete human interferon-alpha 2b. The construct uses a mycobacterial expression system incorporating an alpha-antigen secretion signal and an interferon-alpha 2b transgene. It was evaluated preclinically as a potential intravesical immunotherapy for bladder cancer, where it enhanced peripheral-blood mononuclear-cell proliferation, interferon-associated immune activation, and cytotoxicity against human bladder cancer cell lines relative to wild-type BCG.
