Overview

rBIO-004 is a biosimilar of erythropoietin (EPO) being developed by R'BIO for the treatment of anemia, particularly that associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Produced using R'BIO's proprietary high-yield microbial expression platform, the drug acts as an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA). It functions by binding to and activating the erythropoietin receptor on erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, thereby stimulating the production of red blood cells. rBIO-004 is intended to provide a lower-cost alternative to existing EPO therapies and is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
