RBM-006 is an aptamer therapeutic developed by Ribomic Inc. that specifically binds to and inhibits autotaxin (also known as ENPP2), an enzyme responsible for the synthesis of the lipid mediator lysophosphatidic acid (LPA). By blocking the autotaxin-LPA signaling pathway, RBM-006 aims to prevent tissue fibrosis, which is a key driver in several ocular pathologies. The drug is primarily being developed for proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), where it has shown the ability to inhibit retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cell proliferation and migration, thereby preventing tractional retinal detachment in animal models. Additionally, its anti-fibrotic mechanism suggests potential therapeutic utility in other retinal conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
