RBT-3 is an investigational intravenous drug developed by Renibus Therapeutics, Inc., primarily acting as a ferritin stimulant and hepcidin upregulator. It is designed to modulate iron metabolism to provide cytoprotective effects in the kidneys. The drug is being developed for the prevention of acute kidney injury (AKI), specifically cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity, and for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. By increasing levels of hepcidin and ferritin, RBT-3 aims to sequester iron and reduce oxidative stress-mediated damage. It has been evaluated in Phase 1b clinical trials involving healthy volunteers and patients with stage 3-4 chronic kidney disease to establish safety, tolerability, and pharmacodynamic profiles.
