RBx 10017609 is a small molecule phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor developed by Ranbaxy Laboratories (now part of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries) for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). PDE4 is an enzyme responsible for the degradation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in inflammatory cells. By inhibiting PDE4, RBx 10017609 increases intracellular cAMP levels, which leads to the suppression of various inflammatory mediators and promotes bronchodilation. The drug was evaluated in a Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled proof-of-concept trial (NCT01014130) to assess its safety, tolerability, and efficacy over a 12-week treatment period in subjects with moderate to severe COPD. Following the acquisition of Ranbaxy by Sun Pharma, development of this specific asset appears to have stalled, and it is no longer listed in active clinical pipelines.
