Overview
RBx 10558 (also known as PPD-10558) is a small molecule HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) originally developed by Ranbaxy Laboratories and later licensed to Furiex Pharmaceuticals. It was investigated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia, specifically in patients with Fredrickson type IIa or IIb who had a history of statin-associated myalgia (SAM) and had failed at least two prior statin therapies. The drug was designed to provide lipid-lowering efficacy while potentially offering a better safety profile regarding muscle pain. Development reached Phase IIb clinical trials in the United States, where it was compared against atorvastatin, but development was discontinued around 2011.
