Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RCI001 is a peptide-based investigational drug developed by Rudacure for the treatment of inflammatory ocular surface diseases, primarily dry eye disease (DED). It acts as an inhibitor of Rac1 (Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate 1), a signaling protein involved in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the mediation of inflammatory responses. By inhibiting Rac1, RCI001 aims to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, thereby improving corneal health and alleviating ocular discomfort. The drug is currently in Phase 2 clinical development, where it is being evaluated for its ability to reduce corneal fluorescein staining and improve symptoms in patients with DED.
