Overview

RCM-AcChoR is a denatured preparation of the acetylcholine receptor (AcChoR) from Torpedo californica, specifically modified by complete reduction and carboxymethylation in 6 M guanidine hydrochloride. It functions as a specific immunosuppressant for experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis (EAMG). The drug induces antibodies that react with both RCM-AcChoR and intact AcChoR, but these antibodies are non-pathogenic and have a different specificity compared to disease-inducing anti-AcChoR antibodies. This cross-reactivity and non-pathogenicity are crucial for its therapeutic effect, allowing it to prevent the onset and reverse the clinical symptoms of EAMG by modulating the immune response.
