Overview

RCT-01 is an autologous cell therapy developed by RepliCel Life Sciences for the treatment of chronic tendon injuries, specifically Achilles tendinosis. The therapy consists of type I collagen-expressing fibroblasts derived from the non-bulbar dermal sheath (NBDS) of a patient's own hair follicles. These cells are isolated, expanded, and then injected into the site of tendon injury under ultrasound guidance. The mechanism of action involves the production of cellular collagen to kick-start the healing process and promote tendon regeneration, addressing the underlying degeneration rather than just symptoms. Clinical data from Phase 1/2 trials have demonstrated safety and signals of efficacy in improving tendon structure, physical function, and pain scores.
