Overview

RD-Cy7 is a small molecule near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe designed for diagnostic imaging, specifically as an enhancer for intraoperative fluorescence imaging. It functions as an antagonist of integrin subunit alpha 6 (ITGA6), targeting this protein to improve the detection and surgical resection of hepatocellular carcinoma lesions. The drug was developed by the Institute of Automation Chinese Academy of Sciences and is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for its safety and effectiveness in image-guided surgery for hepatocellular carcinoma[1]. Its mechanism leverages NIR-II fluorescence molecular imaging, which benefits from increased tissue transparency in this spectral region, allowing improved visualization during tumor resection.
