Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RdCVFL (rod-derived cone viability factor long form) is an investigational research protein and the long isoform encoded by the nucleoredoxin-like 1 (NXNL1) gene. Unlike the short isoform RdCVF, which acts as a secreted trophic factor promoting glucose uptake, RdCVFL is a thioredoxin-like, redox-active enzyme that protects photoreceptors from oxidative stress and exhibits chaperone and S-denitrosylase activity. It is not developed as a standalone commercial product but is a key component of SPVN06, an AAV-based, mutation-agnostic gene therapy developed by SparingVision. SPVN06 expresses both RdCVF and RdCVFL and is in Phase I/II clinical development for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa and other rod-cone dystrophies.
