Overview
RDD1609 is a topical gel formulation of pregabalin developed for the treatment of idiopathic pruritus ani, a condition characterized by chronic itching around the anus with no identifiable cause. The drug was investigated in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 2 clinical trials to assess its efficacy and safety for this indication. Pregabalin is known as an anticonvulsant and neuropathic pain agent when used systemically; however, in this formulation it is applied locally as a gel. The precise mechanism of action for RDD1609 in pruritus ani remains unknown. The product was developed by RDD Pharma Ltd., but development has been discontinued following phase 2 studies[1][2][3][5].
