RDEA436

RDEA436 is a small molecule inhibitor of the urate transporter 1 (URAT1), which was developed by Ardea Biosciences for the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout. URAT1 is a transporter protein in the kidney responsible for the reabsorption of uric acid from the renal tubule back into the bloodstream. By inhibiting URAT1, RDEA436 increases the renal excretion of uric acid, thereby lowering serum uric acid levels. While Ardea Biosciences advanced several URAT1 inhibitors into clinical trials, including lesinurad (RDEA594) and RDEA3170, RDEA436 was an earlier candidate or backup compound that was ultimately discontinued in favor of more advanced leads following the acquisition of Ardea by AstraZeneca in 2012.
