RDEA640

RDEA640 is a small molecule inhibitor of the Solute Carrier Family 22 Member 12 (SLC22A12), commonly known as Urate Transporter 1 (URAT1). It was developed by Ardea Biosciences as a second-generation uricosuric agent for the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout, following their lead candidate lesinurad (RDEA594). RDEA640 works by selectively blocking the URAT1 transporter in the proximal tubule of the kidney, which is responsible for the reabsorption of filtered uric acid back into the blood. By inhibiting this process, the drug increases the renal excretion of uric acid, thereby lowering serum urate levels. RDEA640 entered Phase 1 clinical trials to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics; however, development of the compound appears to have been terminated or deprioritized following the acquisition of Ardea Biosciences by AstraZeneca in 2012.
