RDX022 is an **oral, non-absorbed, potassium-binding polymer** developed for the treatment of hyperkalemia, particularly in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and/or heart failure who are taking renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors. It is based on polystyrene sulfonate but has been engineered for improved physical and chemical properties and formulated with a calcium counter-ion to avoid sodium loading. RDX022 works by binding potassium in the gastrointestinal tract, reducing serum potassium levels by enhancing fecal potassium excretion, and is not systemically absorbed. Clinical studies showed RDX022 efficiently increases fecal potassium excretion and was generally well tolerated, with a safety and efficacy profile comparable to standard sodium polystyrene sulfonate and improved palatability and formulation[11][14][15].
