Overview
Re-Connecting Nature (RCN) is an inactivated, nature-derived microbial extract developed by Uute Scientific, a spin-off from the University of Helsinki and Tampere University. [1, 2] Based on the biodiversity hypothesis, it aims to restore the balance of the human immune system by providing topical exposure to a diverse range of microbes that replicate the biodiversity found in Finnish forests. [3, 6] It is formulated for topical application in lotions and creams and is being investigated for immune-mediated conditions, primarily atopic dermatitis. [1, 2, 7] Clinical studies suggest it modulates the immune response by strengthening the skin's protective barrier and down-regulating pro-inflammatory cytokines, thereby reducing the need for conventional atopy medication. [3, 7]
