RE40CA is a standardized rosemary extract containing 40% carnosic acid, a naturally occurring bioactive diterpene. It is being investigated as a cancer chemopreventive agent, particularly for the prevention of invasive breast cancer (by preventing the progression of ductal carcinoma in situ to invasive ductal carcinoma) and prostate cancer. RE40CA acts by disrupting the interaction between β-catenin and B-cell lymphoma 9 (BCL9), thereby inhibiting the oncogenic Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. The development of RE40CA has been supported by the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) PREVENT Cancer Preclinical Drug Development Program.
