Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Reaferon-ES-Lipint is an orally administered, liposomal formulation of recombinant human interferon alpha-2b developed and manufactured by the Russian company Vector-Medica. The drug consists of interferon alpha-2b produced in an *Escherichia coli* expression system (denoted by the 'ES' suffix), encapsulated within liposomes to protect the protein from proteolytic degradation in the gastrointestinal tract and facilitate systemic absorption. As a type I interferon, it functions by binding to the interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR), which activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. This leads to the induction of an antiviral state in host cells and the modulation of both innate and adaptive immune responses. It is approved in Russia for the treatment and prophylaxis of a wide range of viral and bacterial infections, including influenza, acute respiratory viral infections (ORVI), tick-borne encephalitis, chronic hepatitis B, and chlamydial infections.
