REAOXY001 is a preclinical small molecule drug candidate developed by Reach Pharmaceuticals. It functions as a Hypoxia-Inducible Factor Prolyl Hydroxylase Inhibitor (HIF-PHI), a class of therapeutic agents designed to treat anemia, particularly that associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of prolyl hydroxylase enzymes, which are responsible for the degradation of HIF-alpha subunits under normoxic conditions. By stabilizing HIF-alpha, REAOXY001 promotes its translocation to the nucleus, where it induces the transcription of genes essential for erythropoiesis, including erythropoietin (EPO) and proteins involved in iron absorption and transport. As an oral medication, REAOXY001 is intended to provide a more convenient alternative to traditional injectable erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs).
