Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rebeccamycin is an indolocarbazole alkaloid and a natural product with antibiotic and antitumoral properties. It functions as a potent inhibitor of kinases and DNA topoisomerase I. It has been investigated in various clinical trials for its effectiveness against a range of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, and preclinical studies suggest its ability to inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis by downregulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. It also acts as an inhibitor of the fsr quorum sensing system in *Enterococcus faecalis*.
