Recardcumab (SHR-1209) is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals. By binding to PCSK9, recardcumab prevents the protein from interacting with and inducing the degradation of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) on the surface of hepatocytes. This preservation of LDLR levels enhances the liver's ability to clear low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the circulation. Recardcumab is primarily being developed for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, with an NDA submitted in China. Additionally, it is being evaluated in clinical studies for its potential to stabilize coronary atherosclerotic plaques in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), as assessed by optical coherence tomography (OCT).
