Overview

Recasimab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody targeting proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9). Developed by Junshi Biosciences, it is designed to treat primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia. By binding to PCSK9, recasimab prevents the degradation of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) on the surface of hepatocytes, thereby increasing the clearance of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the bloodstream. The drug received approval from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in 2024. Beyond primary lipid disorders, it is being investigated in Phase 4 clinical trials to manage drug-induced hypercholesterolemia, specifically in patients receiving the ALK inhibitor lorlatinib for non-small cell lung cancer.
