Ex-RAD (recilisib sodium) is an experimental small-molecule radioprotectant being developed by Onconova Therapeutics in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense. It is designed to protect cells from the lethal effects of ionizing radiation, specifically for the treatment of Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS). Unlike many other radioprotective agents that function as free-radical scavengers, Ex-RAD acts as a kinase inhibitor that modulates intracellular signaling, damage sensing, and DNA repair pathways. Clinical development has included Phase I studies in healthy volunteers to assess safety and tolerability following subcutaneous administration.
