Overview

This is an investigational bivalent toxoid vaccine developed by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) in collaboration with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID). It is designed to prevent infections caused by *Staphylococcus aureus*, particularly those involving tissue-damaging toxins. The vaccine contains two recombinant protein components: a genetically detoxified version of alpha-hemolysin (recombinant alpha toxoid, rAT) and the S subunit of the Panton-Valentine leukocidin (rLukS-PV). By stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies against these virulence factors, the vaccine aims to prevent toxin-mediated cell lysis and reduce the severity of skin and soft tissue infections as well as invasive staphylococcal disease. Its safety and immunogenicity were evaluated in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial (NCT01011335).
