Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant anti-VEGF humanized monoclonal antibody is a generic term used in clinical trial registries (particularly in China) to describe biosimilars of bevacizumab. Bevacizumab is a recombinant humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody that targets vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). By binding to VEGF-A, it prevents the interaction of VEGF with its receptors (Flt-1/VEGFR1 and KDR/VEGFR2) on the surface of endothelial cells, thereby inhibiting angiogenesis, endothelial cell proliferation, and tumor vascularization. This class of biosimilars is being developed by various pharmaceutical companies for indications including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), colorectal cancer, glioblastoma, diabetic macular edema (DME), and wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD).
