Overview

Recombinant batroxobin is a recombinant version of the thrombin-like serine protease originally isolated from the venom of the snake *Bothrops moojeni*. Unlike thrombin, which cleaves both fibrinopeptide A and B and activates Factor XIII to form stable clots, batroxobin selectively cleaves only fibrinopeptide A from fibrinogen. This action results in the formation of fibrin I monomers that polymerize into unstable, non-crosslinked clots, which are rapidly degraded by the body's endogenous fibrinolytic system. The primary therapeutic effect is a controlled reduction in plasma fibrinogen levels (defibrinogenation), which decreases blood viscosity and improves microcirculation. Developed primarily by companies such as Beijing Kangchen Biological Technology, it is investigated for conditions where microcirculatory improvement is critical, such as sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) and acute ischemic stroke.
