Recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor (rb-bFGF) gel is a recombinant protein therapeutic developed by Zhuhai Essex Bio-Pharmaceutical. It is formulated as a topical or ophthalmic gel to promote tissue repair and wound healing. The active ingredient, rb-bFGF, is a multifunctional growth factor that binds to fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs) on target cells, stimulating cell division, proliferation, migration, and differentiation of ectoderm- and mesoderm-derived cells (such as epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and vascular endothelial cells). It is approved in China under the brand names Beifuxin (for body surface wounds, burns, and surgical incisions) and Beifushu (as an eye gel for corneal damage and dry eye disease).
