Overview

Recombinant bovine insulin is a protein-based insulin receptor agonist developed by Nanjing Cellnuo Biotechnology. It is a recombinant version of the bovine insulin hormone, which differs from human insulin by three amino acids (at positions A8, A10, and B30). Historically, bovine-derived insulin was used as an insulin replacement therapy for the management of diabetes mellitus to regulate blood glucose levels. However, Nanjing Cellnuo's recombinant version is primarily positioned as a high-purity, animal-origin-free (AOF) supplement for use in serum-free cell culture media to support the growth and maintenance of various mammalian cell lines, such as CHO and HEK293, by activating the insulin receptor signaling pathway. It is produced using recombinant DNA technology, typically expressed in yeast or bacterial systems, ensuring high consistency and safety compared to animal-derived counterparts.
