recombinant brain-derived neurotrophic factor

Recombinant brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a therapeutic protein under development by Staidson Biopharmaceutical for the treatment of hearing loss. BDNF is a member of the neurotrophin family of growth factors, which are essential for the survival, development, and function of neurons. In the auditory system, BDNF is critical for the maintenance of spiral ganglion neurons, which transmit sound information from the cochlea to the brain. The exogenous administration of recombinant BDNF is intended to prevent or reverse the degeneration of these neurons following noise-induced injury, ototoxicity, or age-related decline. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
