Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant cholera toxin subunit B (rCTB) is a recombinant protein consisting of the non-toxic homopentameric B-subunit of cholera toxin. It binds with high affinity to GM1 ganglioside receptors on cell surfaces, facilitating mucosal and systemic immune responses without the toxicity associated with the catalytic A-subunit. rCTB is a key component of the oral cholera vaccine Dukoral (developed by SBL Vaccin, now Valneva) and has been investigated as a mucosal adjuvant, a diagnostic tool, and an immunomodulatory agent for inflammatory conditions such as Crohn's disease and asthma.
