Recombinant chymotrypsinogen is a synthetic, biologic version of the pancreatic proenzyme chymotrypsinogen, currently under development by Propanc Biopharma. It is produced as part of the company's Proenzyme Optimization Project 1 (POP1) in collaboration with the Universities of Jaén and Granada. This recombinant protein is designed to be used as a component of PRP, a therapeutic mixture that combines recombinant trypsinogen and recombinant chymotrypsinogen in a synergistic 1:6 ratio. The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of tumor cell growth and the induction of differentiation in cancer stem cells, effectively targeting the malignant phenotype of advanced solid tumors. Research indicates that these recombinant proenzymes may offer enhanced anti-tumor potency and superior stability compared to traditional bovine-derived pancreatic proenzymes. The therapy is intended for intravenous administration and has shown potential across a broad spectrum of cancers, including pancreatic, ovarian, and colorectal malignancies.
