Recombinant corin is a recombinant form of the transmembrane serine protease corin, which plays a vital role in cardiovascular homeostasis by converting pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (pro-ANP) into its active form, atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP). Active ANP promotes natriuresis, diuresis, and vasodilation, thereby regulating blood pressure and preventing cardiac overgrowth. Deficiency in corin activity, often due to genetic variants prevalent in certain populations (e.g., African and Southeast Asian), is linked to salt-sensitive hypertension and heart failure. As a therapeutic candidate, recombinant corin aims to restore natriuretic peptide signaling; preclinical studies have demonstrated its ability to reduce cardiac hypertrophy and improve cardiovascular outcomes in models of hypertension and heart failure.
