Overview

RCVi is a recombinant COVID-19 vaccine utilizing a non-replicating chimpanzee adenovirus vector to deliver the genetic sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Developed by Wuhan BravoVax, this vaccine is specifically formulated for administration via inhalation to induce mucosal immunity in the respiratory tract, in addition to systemic immune responses. The use of a chimpanzee adenovirus vector is intended to circumvent pre-existing immunity to human adenoviruses, which can limit the effectiveness of human adenovirus-based vaccines. As of 2023, the vaccine is being evaluated in Phase I clinical trials as a booster for individuals who have previously received primary vaccination with authorized COVID-19 vaccines.
