Overview

Recombinant Der f 4 is a recombinant version of the group 4 allergen derived from the house dust mite species *Dermatophagoides farinae*. It is a 57.9-kDa hydrophilic protein with a secondary structure characterized by alpha helices, extended strands, and random coils, consistent with the structure of alpha-amylase. In clinical research, rDer f 4 has demonstrated significant IgE reactivity, with approximately 40.7% of pediatric asthma patients sensitized to house dust mites showing positive results in ELISA testing. The protein is typically produced using an *E. coli* expression system and purified via nickel affinity chromatography. It is being investigated for its potential clinical utility as a diagnostic tool and as a component in allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT) for the treatment of house dust mite-induced allergic conditions such as asthma and rhinitis.
