Overview

recombinant equine interleukin-31 is a recombinant form of interleukin-31 (IL-31) derived from horses. It is a cytokine protein involved in mediating immune responses, particularly pruritus (itch) associated with allergic conditions such as insect bite hypersensitivity (IBH) and atopic dermatitis in horses. Recombinant eIL-31 has been produced using both mammalian and bacterial expression systems for use in research and as a model for pruritic disorders in horses. Its biological mechanism involves activation of the IL-31 receptor, leading to pruritus via pathways such as STAT3 phosphorylation in immune cells. It is also being studied as a target antigen for active vaccination strategies aiming to reduce clinical allergic itch in horses[1][2][3][4][5].
