Overview

Recombinant fimbrial adhesin dscCfaE is a donor strand-complemented form of the CfaE protein, which is the minor adhesive subunit located at the tip of CFA/I fimbriae from enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC). This recombinant protein is engineered for increased stability and immunogenicity by fusing the C-terminal region of CfaB (the major pilin subunit) to the N-terminus of CfaE via a linker. The resulting molecule mimics the native conformation found on bacterial surfaces and serves as an antigen in vaccine formulations designed to prevent ETEC-induced diarrhea. The mechanism of action involves stimulating an immune response that generates neutralizing antibodies targeting ETEC adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells, thereby preventing colonization and subsequent diarrheal disease[2][3][5]. Clinical studies have shown that vaccines containing this antigen are safe and immunogenic in humans[3][4].
