Overview

Recombinant GOT1 is a laboratory-produced form of the human enzyme glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase 1 (GOT1), also known as aspartate aminotransferase 1 or AST1. It is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the reversible conversion of aspartate and α-ketoglutarate to oxaloacetate and glutamate in amino acid metabolism[3][4][9]. Recombinant GOT1 is typically produced in Escherichia coli expression systems and purified for research use[4][5]. In preclinical studies, administration of recombinant human GOT1 has been shown to reduce serum and brain glutamate levels after ischemic stroke when combined with oxaloacetate, resulting in neuroprotection by reducing excitotoxicity[1]. The enzyme plays key roles in amino acid metabolism, the urea cycle, tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA), cellular redox balance (NAD+/NADH ratio), and has emerging relevance in cancer cell metabolism and immune cell function[6].
