Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factor (rG-CSF) is a recombinant protein and cytokine that stimulates the bone marrow to produce and release neutrophils and hematopoietic stem cells into the bloodstream. It binds to and activates the G-CSF receptor (CSF3R) on hematopoietic progenitor cells, promoting their proliferation, differentiation, and mobilization. Clinically, rG-CSF is widely used to prevent and treat chemotherapy-induced neutropenia, to accelerate neutrophil recovery following bone marrow transplantation, and to mobilize peripheral blood progenitor cells for autologous or allogeneic stem cell transplantation. It is available under several generic and brand names, including filgrastim (Neupogen) and lenograstim (Granocyte).
