Overview
The recombinant Hansenula polymorpha hepatitis B vaccine + CpG ODN adjuvant is an investigational prophylactic vaccine designed for the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It consists of recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) expressed in the methylotrophic yeast *Hansenula polymorpha* (also known as *Ogataea polymorpha*), which self-assembles into virus-like particles (VLPs). The vaccine is formulated with a CpG oligodeoxynucleotide (CpG ODN) adjuvant, a Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) agonist that enhances both innate and adaptive immune responses. Developed in collaboration by the Zhejiang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Walvax Biotechnology, and Changchun Huapu Biotechnology, the vaccine has been evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial in China to assess its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity compared to non-adjuvanted formulations.
