Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The recombinant hepatitis B vaccine developed by PT Bio Farma is a biologic vaccine designed for active immunization against hepatitis B virus infection. The active ingredient is inactivated hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced in yeast cells (*Hansenula polymorpha*) using recombinant DNA technology. PT Bio Farma has been producing this vaccine since 2000 to meet Indonesia's national immunization program requirements. The vaccine is presented as a whitish liquid and works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against HBsAg. Clinical trials have demonstrated that the vaccine is immunogenic, well-tolerated, and safe, with studies evaluating different bulk antigen sources including those from the Serum Institute of India and Janssen Vaccine Corp.
