Overview

Recombinant hepatitis B virus vaccine is a subunit vaccine containing the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), produced via recombinant DNA technology typically in yeast cells (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*). It is designed to prevent infection by the hepatitis B virus (HBV) by inducing the production of neutralizing anti-HBs antibodies. The Universidad de Valparaiso has sponsored Phase 3 clinical research, specifically the CORE-HIV trial (NCT01552629), to evaluate the efficacy of intensified re-vaccination schedules in HIV-infected patients who previously failed to respond to standard vaccination. This research compared a high-dose (40 mcg) re-vaccination regimen against a standard-dose (20 mcg) regimen to optimize seroprotection rates in this immunocompromised population.
