Overview

Recombinant human anti-rabies virus monoclonal antibody is a biological drug developed by the Lanzhou Institute of Biological Products, a subsidiary of China National Biotec Group (Sinopharm), for the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) of rabies. This monoclonal antibody is designed to provide immediate passive immunity by specifically binding to and neutralizing the rabies virus glycoprotein (G protein), thereby preventing the virus from attaching to and entering host cells at the site of exposure. It is intended to be used in combination with the rabies vaccine, serving as a more standardized and potentially safer alternative to traditional blood-derived products like human rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG) or equine rabies immunoglobulin (ERIG). The drug is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials in China, where it is being evaluated for its safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy in individuals exposed to the rabies virus.
