Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant human Bone Morphogenetic Protein 6 (rhBMP6) is a biologic therapeutic belonging to the TGF-β superfamily. It is primarily developed for its potent osteoinductive properties, stimulating the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts and chondrocytes to promote bone and cartilage repair. A notable formulation, rhBMP6/ABC (Autologous Blood Graft Substitute), utilizes an autologous blood coagulum as a carrier to avoid the complications associated with bovine collagen scaffolds used in earlier BMP products. It has been investigated in clinical trials for bone healing in high tibial osteotomy and is also being researched for its potential to restore epidermal barrier function in atopic eczema by increasing filaggrin expression.
