Recombinant human CC10 (rhCC10) is a biologic drug developed as a novel anti-inflammatory therapeutic agent for the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases characterized by marked inflammation. It is a recombinant form of the endogenous Club Cell 10 kDa protein (also known as Clara cell secretory protein), which is naturally produced by airway epithelial cells. rhCC10 exerts its effects primarily through inhibition of nuclear factor NF-κB activity and suppression of pro-inflammatory mediators such as IL-8/CXCL8 and mucin MUC5AC. It also upregulates growth factors like vascular endothelial growth factor and surfactant proteins, reduces lung injury from hyperoxia, endotoxin, and infection, inhibits inflammatory cell chemotaxis, suppresses phospholipase A2 activity, downregulates Th2 T-cell differentiation/cytokine production, and modulates epithelial remodeling. The drug has been evaluated in clinical trials for the prevention of chronic pulmonary insufficiency of prematurity (CPIP) in preterm neonates via intratracheal administration[1][2][4][5][6].
