Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Recombinant human collagen type III (rHCIII) is a bioengineered, animal-free protein designed to mimic the structure and biological activity of native human type III collagen. Produced via genetic recombination and fermentation in host systems such as yeast (*Pichia pastoris*) or *E. coli*, rHCIII avoids the immunogenicity and pathogen transmission risks associated with animal-derived collagens. It is widely utilized in medical aesthetics, wound healing, and tissue engineering due to its high biocompatibility, water solubility, and ability to promote cell adhesion, migration, and extracellular matrix regeneration. In addition to its established applications in dermatology and cosmetics (such as dermal fillers and skin rejuvenation), preclinical research has investigated its therapeutic potential for conditions like interstitial cystitis, where intravesical perfusion of rHCIII has been shown to restore bladder mucosal and submucosal collagen organization, reduce mast cell infiltration, and attenuate epithelial cell apoptosis.
